Stream Report 05/04/2018

Updated: Jun 6, 2018

The water levels are finally back down to fishable levels on the Lehigh River. This week we had a couple of really good streamer days and some flurries of bug activity with some fish sipping along the banks. We picked up some really nice fish on some "Drunk and Disorderly" streamers fished on Orvis sink tip leaders. The fish were eating the streamers along the banks almost as soon as the fly would hit the water or after one or two strips. The takes were incredible with many of the fish coming out of the water when they would eat. Last week was very warm and it caused the river to warm a bit but the river's water temperature will start to drop again with the cool weather and the cool shots of rain we keep getting. Yesterday was the first real good bug day we had this week and I expect the bug activity will pick up again and we will continue to see some March Browns, Isonychia, caddis, sulphurs golden stoneflies and more. In less than 2 weeks I will start moving trips over to the Susquehanna and Juniata Rivers for smallmouth bass. With the cool water temperatures I think the Lehigh will still be on the table as well. Check out some of the photos of this weeks catches.
