We've Been Anxiously Awaiting the Smallmouth Season on the Susquehanna and Juniata Rivers

The Susquehanna River bass opener was officially June 16th. We had two boats out for the opener and the fishing was a little on the slow side. Sometimes the fish go into a post spawn lull but they should be getting more active here soon. Andy Ranieri and Eric Richard were out for the season opener in the Liverpool area and did put some nice fish in the boat with the biggest going 17 inches which is a pretty solid smallmouth bass.

I always love those first few days after the opener because the fish have been left alone for the most part and they can be pretty gullible and aggressive. My first trip is tomorrow and I am looking forward to throwing some big flies on some intermediate lines and maybe even some big poppers fished real erratically. In any matter I will keep you updated on how we do and will provide regular stream reports through Facebook and through the website.

Here are some pics of some recent smallmouth bass.
